I think the Grundig Satellite 750 is a good low end buy for serious SW listening (such as from Universal Radio in Ohio). For affordable casual and emergency use I like the compact and portable Kaito KA500 AM/FM/Shortwave/WeatherBand unit. It offers versatile 4 way power ability, with battery, solar and hand crank, plus optional AC plug in power supply. Sells for around $50 via Amazon with free shipping. I seriously suggest acquiring at least one multi-power shortwave radio and storing it in a Faraday cage in case of an EMP attack, or even severe CME events.
