Soldering help
« on: February 17, 2014, 09:10:40 PM »
I got my new soldering iron and need to get the solder. What king of solder do I get for soldering PL-259 connectors. There's so many different kinds out there. Thanks for any help.

Just go to Radio Shack and make a selection, preferably the smaller diameter if you plan on doing 259s. Doing coax connectors with an iron is a pain because they sink so much of the heat. I use a Weller gun at home and a pencil torch in the field. YMMV. Another trick is place the solder at the junction of the iron and the piece being soldered to get faster heat transfer going to where you're working, instead of melting the dialectric by trying to heat the whole piece and then applying the solder.
