I did a cursory Google search https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=kenwood+radio+whines+with+nimh+battery&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8#q=kenwood+radio+whines+with+nimh+battery&start=10
Nothing relevant to Greek Man's problem came up, so I'm going to say he's "special".
My guess is that the lower voltage is making something oscillate, and it's getting into the audio. I think it's easier to just use a different battery than try to troubleshoot and repair the problem.

indeed i dis such a search myself afterwards, and did not get anything.
I even used the word "squeal" Nothing!
So this afternoon i tried with discharged batteries and will still won't replicate the phenomenon.
Hope it stays this way.
in the past it as done it with Eneloops, Uniross Hybrios and the abtts there are on now, Lidl Black LSDs (Tronic)
It is still an interestign phenomenon -remember the club repeater instance- cos it will pyt you out of action.
Oh by the way....it is better to have a whinny radio than a whinny wife!

When you fogure out how to stop the second one please let me know 8)

Hi...i am a new user here. As per my knowledge the radio is not getting quite enough voltage as the NiMh batteries are lower voltage than alkaline.I have a radio that does a similar thing because it needs just a bit more voltage to run correctly.

Take a look at the specs for your radio. You'll see that battery voltage is lower than 12 volts, there is circuitry that takes the charging voltage and drops it to what the radio wants. At least that's how it is with my TH-F6. YMMV, depending on your radio. I'm suspicious that it is NOT a battery problem. (But if you have another or different battery, it's time for a swap test.)
