Who has started to study and what method are you using?
« on: February 16, 2012, 07:43:14 PM »
Ok,
Now lets see who is activly studying for the test.

Let me know what method you are using

Are you planning on studying for both Tech and General ( we recommend this method approach)?

Are you studying via a formal, instructor lead class.

The only dumb question is the one that did not get asked!!

Studying for the extra, plan on reading the book, running through the flash cards, taking the online tests, then acing the test.
The more I learn, the less I know.

Books were supposed to get here today, me so sad.   :'(

Planning to use books and HTOL, as well as this site.  Already enjoying the downloads and discussions.

I am meeting with a study group tomorrow from the local club. They have a group that is studying for the general. I have a book for the tech and I will do that on my own. My general book should be here tomorrow. I will probably be doing some online study too.

Im 20% through the Extra lessons on HTOL. Guys, spend some money, these are great. Ive retained so much more than with the book and flashcards in 1 day. I was expecting a 2-3 month study period, Ill be up and ready in 3 weeks, Im sure.

Great resource

I was just down at HRO, and bought the audio cd set for extra. Now I am not recommending this for your only means of study. But I live in Atlanta, which translates to 2 hours worth of commute time daily.. During that 2 hours i'll let the audio cd's run! Then I will go and try and take the test once I finish the book. I only recommend the audio cd's if you have a bunch of windshield time to blow. Once I am done with them i will put them up for the group to use.

How much did they set you back, 1911? Once I get my other tests behind me I would be interested in them. Eventhough the Native is still calling me a nerd I'm pretty excited about all of this. I almost hope the SHTF and all the communication goea down, just so I can tell her no This nerd will not make any calls on her behalf. LOL.

Like 35 bucks..

I'll send them along once I am done. You got a few months ahead of ya with the tech and general, and convincing the wife to let you buy one yet ;)

On the contrary, fine sir. I have learned that in order for one (meaning me) to get what one wants, it is often times far easier to seek forgiveness than to waste ones efforts in seeking permission.

Passed the tech using HTOL, eham.net, and QRZ along with the ARRL. I am currently studying for my general and am about halfway through the book and QRZ. There is a lot more technical information for the general than the tech. I listen nightly on two of the repeaters near me, but as of yet have not responded or called for anyone listening.

Easiest way to start is to ask for a radio check.  Tell them your trying out a new rig.

Your script

"KD0QVV radio check please"

Repeat as necessary.  Wait until a QSO has finished and toss out the radio check. Thats how i did it

Tell them its a new radio or antenna and your testing it out.  Let them know its your first QSO. It will make their day knowing they were your frst contact.

I remember mine and i see the guy every few months. He nor i will ever forget that first QSO
