Radio Shack HTX 202

(1/1)

DMack:
I have an HTX 202 and it appears that the squelch has locked open.  X-ceiver receives and transmits just fine, but the squelch will not adjust at all.  I have tried to reset the radio to factory settings hoping this would cler the malfunction but to no avail.  Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?  Thanks is advance!

When you turn the squelch does it do anything one way or another??

There is the manual, not sure if you have it but maybe that might be of help.

DMack:
Thanks for the reply ideal1911.  I do have the manual and have scoured it for some sort of lead as to the problem; but so far other than doing a factory reset, that is about all it addresses.  Nothing at all happens when I turn the squelch.  There is resistance so I know that when the knob turns the pot inside is turning as well.  Something else I noticed after I posted this question yesterday is occurring, there is no 'offset' when I key the mike.  The + and the - symbol appear on the LCD but the freq counter I have nearby registers that I am transmitting on simplex.  I am not sure if the two problems are related or not.

This is an old HT I realize, and has seen its better day; but I just hate to have to 'retire' it since it is still a solidly constructed radio.  I am not even sure if there is someone out there who even services them anymore.  I also have its brother the HTX 404 that still works just fine.  At best I would like to get it back up and running as designed.  I do have another HT I could use so I am not without one.  I was primarily keeping this one as a spare and a backup.   I could still keep it for emergencies and such if need be, but getting it fixed would be optimal.  Anyway, enough rambling. Thanks again for any direction you can provide.   :)

Did you check the wires that go to the Squelch Pot, and see if one of them is broken?
