Widening my frequency range

I would like to widen my UHF/VHF frequency range on my Icom 7100. I want to put it in my work truck and also put my commercial work frequency in it. I found this site with how to's to do it. What do you guys think? Is it safe? I dont want to brake the wrong diode.

It looks like diode D6316 would be it.

Iv done this mod on my Icom IC-51. It worked good. Just haven't heard of many people doing it with 7100.

I just read a post on another site that this mod will only allow me to receive but not transmit.
