Welcome from another Texan.  Yep, you sure won't have a problem with the cold and snow here!   ::)

we get cold and snow here in TX.  In Austin we had 2 days of snow (the best kind -- that doesn't accumulate) and it was cold at least 2 weeks according to my wife.  I'd say it was really cold only maybe one day.

So yeah... I'm in TX, I'm actually in Round Rock just north of Austin.  And I noticed the bob & mike comment.  I guess I just make that problem worse  :)

I know Round Rock well, best tacos are at Speedy tacos n more on north Mays.  Jesse (the father and owner) and Greg (one of his sons) are the main personalities there.

Yet another Texan here.  Just starting out, what study web site does anyone recommend? Where should I begin?

If you have the money ($50) www.hamtestonline.com (http://www.hamtestonline.com)

Or if you feel lucky, they(HTOL) gave me a free Tech and General class subscription to raffle off soon.  The raffle will be open to new members or those that dont have any license yet.  I will be putting out a newsletter next week some time letting everyone know.  So tell your friends.

Welcome to the group, unseen.  I would recommend you take the free "test drive" at HTOL.  You can always buy a subscription after that if you didn't win one.
That way you're still making steady progress toward a license and haven't wasted time or money.  Good luck!!!

Thanks for the Advice... I took the test drive, and the plunge. Pass the tech and general today. I need to work on a mobile antenna install next... and continue studying for the extra.. htol is great.

Lets try this, I don't know about y'all, but the repeater listings that are out there leave a lot to be desired as far as  up to date and right.  How about we give  the top three or four 2m or 70cm repeater freqs from whatever area you are in , at least  we will know those work if we are on a trip and happen to be in your area.
Corpus Christi,(South Texas Amateur Radio Club, STARC) main 2m located in Petronilla,NW of CC covers a pretty large area . 146.82 -  107.2,  CC  SW Lynx/SaltGrass  146.840 - 162.2,  Refugio, good coverage on US 77 from S of Victoria to South of CC 147.180 + 136.5, Rockport, 147.260 + 103.5,  Taft/Odem, 444.800 + 114.8

Hmmm... no activity here for nearly 4 years.  Is anyone still alive?  I'm in the Texarkana corner of Texas.  General Class, thinking about going for Extra.  Gotta tilt my tower over and replace all the coax that's been up there since 1990 and spruce up my antennas.
