It's a great rig but they are way overpriced. And many of the cool features are accessories that cost even more $$.

The Elecraft website does not say if this is a kit or not; I'm going to assume it is. So you're looking at a radio that cost substantially more than an FT-817 (even without the extras) and you still have to put it together yourself.  :o

The standard code reader is cool. I also like the large screen display. It looks like the functions are not buried in a labyrinth of menus like on the 817.

If they can offer an assembled version and price it competitively with the 817, I might go for it.

the  817 also has 6M, 2M, and 440. so the KX2 will not be taking any of that market

Im planing on getting the FT-857 for my next go kit, but was waiting to see how this is. I think im still going with the 857. Uhf/vhf/hf is the reason. Going low power is the key in the field but having the option of the 100w will still be there.

no hate here, I unlock call my hardware to get to 420 to 430
this use to be usable by default, but now it is not, and I have yet to find out why

have you discovered commercial radio equipment yet ?

I prefer commercial equipment  - I have a couple of Motorola Micom-II HF's and use an Icom M-802 for digital....
