OK, interesting. I see no reason to go to that trouble to do it from a device that is power hungry to begin with. Seems to me if you have a computer you would have power to just charge the radio. Am I missing something?

Charging on the field with a powerbank.... The way the modern cellphones go, everyone will soon have a couple on hand...

quite a few of the new AC power inverters have USB power outputs
and newer cars have the USB power ports as well
so I can see why people want this
