BTech UV-5001
« on: March 23, 2016, 03:28:26 PM »
Do any of you have experience with this radio? https://baofengtech.com/uv-5001

$150 for a 50W VHF/UHF mobile is pretty good. I'm thinking of picking up a couple of these...one as a secondary home radio and one for the vehicle.

number one thing I look for in a radio is receive current,
if it is to high, it ends up being a bad match for my solar power system
but I can't find it listed

Thanks, AD. When I purchase I'll use the link you provided. Thanks, too, for the review. It looks quite reasonable and capable for the money.

Bkt

Up to now the Powerwerx DB-750 was the deal at $299
http://www.powerwerx.com/two-way-radios/mobile-radios/db-750x-dual-band-commercial-mobile.html

I bought one 3 years ago and am still running it in my avalanche.  Does everyband that any Baofeng will and X-Band repeat.

This is the next salvo in the lower price fully capable unit

It you get it and you feel like writing a review we can post it here and on the bolg page www.preparedham.com

Is this just the latest in the Baofeng drive to be the nexus of pricing and quality in ham?

They are sure giving the big guys a run for the money.

The rumor has it they are also coming out with a HF rig too.

Not to derail this thread, but I will since I can  8)  how is the studying going for the General?

You need to concentrate on that along with saving the $ for a HF UHF/VHF rig.

PM or email me your answer if you wish.

I'm way behind on studying.  We hosted a seder on Friday night with ten people and brought food to the coast for Saturday and Sunday.  No rest for the wicked at our house.  I hope to get my sorry self back on track.  I'm very lucky, though, as we have a monthly test here in town and all the other outlying towns near us have testing centers, too.

Oh, I transmit a lot on the HT.  Nets, and such.  It's weird because I'm really not a chatterbox, and I have no clue what to say.  "So newbie, you got any questions for us?"  Me, "Errrr...no questions that don't make me sound like a moron.  Ok if I just listen?"
